Value Creation with Mobility & Telematics Services Sector

The JVCKENWOOD Group has identified the material issue of "Safety & Security Initiatives" to achieve the future it envisions by 2030.
In Mobility & Telematics Services Sector, we contribute to reducing the burden on drivers and preventing traffic accidents through drive recorders that are effective in encouraging safe driving as well as high-precision, high-visibility, and high-functioning car navigation systems. These products also contribute to addressing social issues such as climate change response and the effective use of resources.

Contributing to the Reduction and Prevention of Traffic Accidents

Corresponding SDGs

In Japan today, traffic accidents occur at a rate of approximately 290,000 incidents per year, resulting in approximately 30,000 fatalities and serious injuries *. Traffic accidents and the number of fatalities and serious injuries are on the decline. However, countermeasures against traffic accidents involving reckless driving and children and elderly people are an urgent issue.

In addition, in recent years, the automobile industry has been required to carry out drastic reforms toward decarbonization. It is also an important initiative for automobiles currently running in the city to avoid accidents and traffic jams, to drive efficiently, and to reduce GHG emissions. In SDGs Goal 3 "Good health and wellbeing" and Goal 11 " Make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable", which the JVCKENWOOD Group emphasizes, require halving traffic accidents and improving traffic safety. In addition, Goal 13 "Climate action" literally requires concrete measures for reducing GHG emissions.

The JVCKENWOOD Group recognizes that the realization of a safe and secure automobile society free from traffic accidents and traffic congestion is an important issue to be tackled.

The "Saisoku Navi" Car Navigation System Series

Car navigation and display audio systems developed by the Company, such as the Saisoku Navi AV navigation system series, are equipped with high-precision navigation functions, high-resolution and high viewing-angle panels that take into account screen vividness and visibility. This leads to reliable recognition of navigation information. In addition, user interface has been improved with faster response time for touch panel operation, an easy-to-use operation system, and enhanced driving support functions that alert a driver, such as the display of speed control areas in residential areas and a warning message when driving in the wrong direction. These features help reduce a driver’s fatigue under various driving conditions and contribute to reducing and preventing traffic accidents.

Technical and product capabilities to realize these functions have been honed over many years in the Aftermarket Business. In addition, our top-class market share in the industry has been highly evaluated by automakers, and our OEM business has been adopted* by many Japanese automakers as well as overseas automakers such as Daimler Truck North America LLC.

Dashcams with Various Driving Support Functions

The Company's dashcam contributes to reducing and preventing traffic accidents with various driver support functions, including a recording function that protects the user in the case of an accident or tailgating.

For example, AI Sensing feature, which automatically detects sudden approaches from behind and meandering driving and starts recording, and warning functions for forward collision and lane departure alert the driver to the danger. Our dashcams with a digital rearview mirror are equipped with functions to widen the rear viewing angle to reduce accidents caused by a reduced area of viewing due to luggage or insufficient safety confirmation when parking, and to assist parking in reverse.

We also provide dashcams with communication capability for automotive insurance services offered by non-life insurance companies. The connected function allows automatic reporting in the event of a traffic accident, enabling prompt and accurate initial response and contributing to preventing multiple traffic accidents.

In the domestic aftermarket, we have a top-class market share in the industry. Given our strong reputation and product capabilities in the aftermarket, our products have been adopted by many Japanese automakers also in the OEM Business.
Ever since our connected-type dashcams were first adopted for the automobile insurance services provided by MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings in 2018, they have been continuously used for the automobile insurance services provided by the said group, and have been highly recognized for their contribution to reducing the rate of accidents.

JVCKENWOOD Alcohol Detector Solutions, Aiming for Both Safety and Environmental Benefits

From the perspectives of safety, the environment, and compliance, JVCKENWOOD works to provide products and services that contribute to realizing a sustainable society. As part of this work, we have launched alcohol detector solutions. They aim to prevent traffic accidents and bolster the company's safe driving management structure, and were developed based on our determination to eliminate tragic accidents which occur due to driving while drunk or otherwise under the influence of alcohol. Approved by the Japan Breath Alcohol Testing Consortium (J-BAC), our solutions are a lineup of high-accuracy and high-reliability products which have cleared the rigorous testing standards of third-party institutions. As well as supporting employee safety and corporate legal compliance, they aim to create a product life cycle which reduces the environmental burden.

Cloud-Linked Alcohol Detectors (CAX-AD150/CAX-AD300)

Strengthens a company's safe driving structure and compliance through real-time management

These models connect with a smartphone via BluetoothR to record and share measurement results, facial images, and location data in real time via the cloud. Using a web browser, administrators can quickly verify employees' alcohol check status before they drive. Functions to prevent tampering of records and identity checks through facial images enable highly-trustworthy operation. Featuring a high-precision sensor made in Japan, these models deliver rapid and accurate measurement in 15 seconds.

Manual Management Alcohol Detector (CAX-AD50)

Easy implementation and accurate checking fosters awareness of safety

The CAX-AD50 can be flexibly implemented to suit a company's size and operating structure. Its simple operation enables measurement just by turning it on, and results are recorded by handwriting or manual input. As it provides accurate alcohol checking with low implementation costs, the CAX-AD50 contributes to embedding awareness of safety and bolstering driving management for small to medium-sized businesses and companies implementing the system for the first time.

Alcohol Detector Refurbishment Center

Reducing the environmental burden across the product life cycle

Alcohol detectors have a working lifespan. They need to be replaced once a year, creating a product cycle requiring the disposal of several million units annually. To address this issue, JVCKENWOOD established an industry-first Alcohol Detector Refurbishment Center, working to renew end-of-life products. In this way, we are working to address the issue of a large volume of waste disposal, by doing so aiming for a safe, secure, and sustainable society.

By renewing products through sensor replacement and overall maintenance, the Alcohol Detector Refurbishment Center reduces waste, promotes circular resource recycling, and contributes to a reduced environmental burden. This initiative aims to improve sustainability across the product life cycle, contributing to corporate ESG efforts and the SDGs.

Ultimately, through alcohol detector solutions JVCKENWOOD supports both the company's safe driving management and environmental friendliness, contributing to realizing a sustainable society.
