Vehicle sound tuning technology

Technical Overview

JVCKENWOOD achieve an immersive sound experience inside the vehicle through a meticulous tuning of the acoustic space.

"The immersive realism as if a stage unfolds before your eyes."

To achieve this ideal audio experience, the original sound reproduction technology is created. This technology, built upon a foundation of meticulously improved sound quality and refined through precise tuning of the acoustic space, delivers realistic sound as if an artist were performing right in front of you. VICTOR STUDIO engineers deeply understand the artists' intentions and reflect the sensibility in the sound production. Meanwhile, designers of in-vehicle audio equipment and speakers, who have shared sound quality philosophies and accumulated extensive know-how, bring those intentions to life. The passion and expertise of both teams converge to create an exciting sound world that is distinctly JVCKENWOOD.

Technical Details

The foundation of sound creation consists of sound quality technology and acoustic technology. Sound quality technology involves ensuring basic performance and implementing sound quality measures through listening evaluations. We create an immersive acoustic space through careful analog development, such as refining the fundamental sound quality of speakers, and advanced digital signal processing, including board layout and component selection. On the other hand, Acoustic technology involves in-cabin correction through Digital Signal Processor (DSP) processing.

• Sound quality technology

JVCKENWOOD achieves our ideal sound by executing processes as below.

・For signal processing

We implement various measures, such as adopting high-quality components, tuning circuit board patterns, and designing chassis structures that suppress resonance.

・For speakers

We strictly and repeatedly carry out processes such as sound quality design, measurement and analysis, and listening evaluations in measurable areas.

In-vehicle Sound Quality Technology

• Acoustic technology

Acoustic technology not only complements high-frequency signals in CD and compressed audio sources but also adapts to the unique environment of the vehicle cabin. Inside a vehicle, various factors hinder the reproduction of original sound, such as reflection and absorption by glass and seats, variations in complex frequency and phase characteristics, asymmetric speaker placement, and different types of noise like road noise, wind noise, and engine noise. JVCKENWOOD optimizes its DSP to compensate for these numerous disadvantages and to create an ideal acoustic space.

■Complex In-vehicle Frequency and Phase Characteristics

Due to reflections and absorption by glass and seats, complex diffuse reflections and standing waves occur in cabin space.

■Road Noise, Wind Noise, Engine Noise

Various noises during vehicle travel mask the audio signal.

■Listening Position Offset

Due to the asymmetrical speaker positions, sound image cannot be in front of driver.

■High-Frequency Loss in CD and Compressed Audio Sources

Due to digital format limitation, CDs and compressed audio sources are altered and degraded.
